I Take it Back...I Won't Be Watching

Did you watch Big Brother last night? Or were you one of the many people who can’t stand reality television?

A couple of months ago I made a bold statement about my love of reality shows especially Big Brother and I admitted that I was really looking forward to the show. In case you missed it Big Brother began last night on channel 9 (WIN). Despite my previous post about looking forward to Big Brother when it came to watching I was not really all that excited but I figured I should at least watch the first show.

Even from the moment it began I wasn’t impressed. It just felt like there was something missing. Maybe it was that the network is taking a risk with Big Brother and did not want to invest too much cash into the show (someone commented on my facebook post that they thought they spent all the cash on the T.V. ads). Maybe it was Sonja Kruger just not having the energy of previous BB hosts (I loved Gretel’s quick comebacks). Or maybe it is that I am a mum in my 30s and BB just does not appeal to me as much as it previously did.

She does a good job but I still miss Gretel
None of the housemates seemed particularly interesting (although I know it takes time for them to let go of the initial awareness that they are being filmed) and it was all just a little bit slow. I did think the eighteen year old self confessed geek seemed sweet and had the potential to be interesting and he kind of reminded me of someone I know (and like).

I also did not like that it was not live. I think part of the energy and excitement of the previous BB shows was the fact that a lot of it was live and you felt like it was all actually happening as you were watching.
Whatever it is, I think I need to take back my statement that I will be watching BB. I think I may catch a few shows here and there but will I be glued to the TV like I have been in the past? I don’t think so.

Did you watch it? What did you think?
