Today, I thought I would share with you how I have started applying the word "Simple" to my everyday life. 2013 is not going to be simple unless I make the effort to simplify things.
Here are a few things I have been working on (in no particular order):
- I want to make running a part of my routine so instead of saying I will go three times a week and then just hoping I will feel like it, I have decided to run on days starting with "T" (and my regular running group on Saturday). Simple.
- As we have a two story house it was driving me crazy that I would have to run upstairs to get the kids their shoes before we left the house. So now the shoes are in a bucket by the door. Simple.
- Last week I was supposed to meet a friend two hours drive away. As much as I love her and would have loved to see her, making the drive by myself with two of my kids was not going to be simple. So I decided I would call her instead. Simple.
- Last Monday I woke up and decided that I wanted to cut my hair short. Now it dries quicker and is easy to style. It is simple.

The new do! |
- I have Emily's 4th Birthday party coming up. Previously I have created a Lady Bug Party and a Rainbow Party for Claire and I am so tempted to go crazy but so far I am keeping it simple. I have already baked and frozen the cake, and most things are already bought. Every time I think of something that would be great but that I don't really have time for I tell myself...Simple.

- I love writing for my blog but so far this year I can only wrote a post once a week (even though there are at least 10 in my head to write). That's ok. I'm keeping it simple (although hopefully there will be two posts this week).
- Last year I tried to read the whole Bible in a year (and did ok but didn't manage the whole thing. This year I just try to read a chapter a day. Simple.
- I have organised my pantry, laundry cupboard, linen cupboard and walk in wardrobe so that things are easy to find and much more simple.
- I have decided to have my fruit and vegetables delivered fortnightly so I get great quality produce and I don't have to think about going to the shops to buy it. Simple.
Yesterday I asked my facebook followers what they do to make life simple. Here is what they suggested:
Lyn said: Stay single :) and buy a Thermomix. Replaces most other appliances and inspires even a non cook to cook A worthy investment, saves so much time and food tastes great cooked in it!
Julie from The Useful Box said: Load of washing on every night after kids are in bed, hang out first thing after breakfast. Bring in every afternoon and fold STRAIGHT AWAY (it isn't too bad with only one load!)
Kim-Marie from Kimba Likes said: A separate washing basket for each member of the family, plus one for towels and sheets. Laundry gets folded into each person's basket and then it is up to them to put it away, or live out of their basket!
Ineke said: Have no credit cards! Live on the money you have and if you can't afford it then saying No is easy!
Katie said: I keep beautiful clothes that I love only and mix and match for a different look, 10 beautiful items go alot further than a bunch of clothes and My husband bought 20 pairs of the same black socks so all the socks can be matched with each other
Julie said: A school uniform for each day of the week. No night before washing or last minute ironing. They are at a public school, so not too $(and this includes some 2nd hand tunics).
Claudia from Little Cottage Big Life said: I try not to panic when things go wrong or the kids fall over and blood appears. Life is a lot more simple with a level head
Sarah said: When I go grocery shopping I don't use bags I throw everything in a laundry basket then put away when home. you basically save on buying plastic bags plus you save time packing and unpacking the bags by cutting it out altogether. I cook one simple meal ( casserole or pasta) to last two days so it cuts out cooking every day and once a while takeaway to avoid time going to shops preparing meal then cleaning up. I wake up early on weekends to do house chores so that I'm ahead of the game such as cooking meals/ lunches for the working week and freeze them. I do a lot of "cheat things"like paying for house cleaner, ironing so I can focus on my kids as I'm only at home with them 4 days a week. I priorities catching up with a small group of friends only. I mainly text and not call unless urgent.
Thanks to everyone who shared their tips on facebook.
Do you have a great tip to keep life "Simple"?
